Edit existing images with text instructions.
How to use it
edit_image is exposed by the Image Gen MCP MCP server. Add the server to your MCP client (Claude Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf and others), and the edit_image tool becomes available to the model automatically. See the full listing for setup details and every tool this server provides.
Install Image Gen MCP

"auto" "transparent" "opaque" (default: "auto")
Generate images from text descriptions using any supported model.
(required): Base64 encoded image or data URL
List all available image generation models and their capabilities.
Optional mask for targeted editing
(optional): Model to use (e.g., "gpt-image-2", "gpt-image-1.5", "dall-e-3", "imagen-4")
"png" "jpeg" "webp" (default: "png")
(required): Text description of desired image
"auto" "high" "medium" "low" (default: "auto")
"auto", presets like "1024x1024" / "1536x1024" / "1024x1536" / "3840x2160", or (for gpt-image-2) any WxH within the model's constraints (default: "1536x1024"). Accepted values are model-dependent.
"vivid" "natural" (default: "vivid")
