What is an MCP server?
An MCP server is a program that exposes tools, resources and prompts to AI applications through the Model Context Protocol, an open standard originally released by Anthropic and now governed by the Linux Foundation. MCP servers let AI clients like Claude Desktop, ChatGPT, Cursor and Windsurf connect to databases, APIs, file systems and other external systems.
How do listings get on MCPVault?
We index the public MCP ecosystem automatically from sources like GitHub and npm. Auto-indexed listings show basic public data and are marked as unclaimed. Creators can claim them at any time to take control of the page.
How do I claim my server?
Search for your server on the claim page, then verify ownership with your GitHub account or by adding a verification file to your repository. It takes under two minutes and is completely free.
What does the verified badge mean?
Verified means we actually tested that the server responds and works: we spawn it and complete a real MCP handshake, not just check that the code exists. Verified servers are re-tested every week and the date of the last successful test is shown on the listing. A failed re-test removes the badge automatically, so verified always means recently passing. Verified listings also get a do-follow link and priority placement in their category.
What are quality grades?
Every listing gets a grade from A to F based on maintenance cadence, adoption, license clarity and documentation. Grades are recomputed nightly from public repository signals and cannot be edited or bought, so they stay current as projects evolve.
How fresh is the data on MCPVault?
Quality grades and repository signals such as stars, license and last commit are refreshed nightly from GitHub. Verified servers are additionally re-tested weekly with a live MCP handshake, and a failure removes the badge until a re-run passes. New servers appearing on GitHub and npm are indexed automatically every night.
Is MCPVault affiliated with Anthropic?
No. MCPVault is fully independent. We are not affiliated with Anthropic, OpenAI or the Linux Foundation. That independence is the point: we grade and verify servers on merit.
How much does it cost?
Browsing, claiming and editing your listing are free. The verified badge is also free during early access: we test your server and, if it passes and you show the MCPVault badge in your README or on your site, the badge and a do-follow link cost you nothing. Featured placement and sponsorship are paid options.
Can one account manage multiple servers?
Yes. One account can claim and manage any number of MCP servers. Agencies and teams maintaining several servers manage them all from a single dashboard.
